The internet is now a multi-billion dollar industry. Somehow, people found a way to monetize the internet and everyone wants a bigger piece of the pie. Many sites are there with just one goal in mind; to make the most money as fast as possible!

One way of doing that is through web traffic. Like a busy alley on a market day, more people passing by your store means bigger chances of attracting a potential buyer. Every company starts out with a capital and a sure way to regain it is through getting people to see what you have to offer and be interested enough to buy it.

The most tried and tested method of letting people know that you exist is through advertising. Millions of queries are typed in search boxes everyday and websites that are at the top of the search list gets the most traffic flow. So how do you make money out of web ads and traffic flow? It’s a scheme called ‘pay-per-click’ where a visitor on your page clicks an ad and every click accumulates into points.

However, with thousands of sites that are probably similar to your own website, getting the most traffic is a difficult task. Your site needs to be unique, interesting at the least so that people will pick your site amongst others. And of course, clients will choose to advertise on sites where they can be seen by the most visitors.

Another way is through an affiliate program. You can do this by linking up with bigger and more popular sites and get money by having a percentage of earnings generated by traffic coming from your site. The idea is that visitors on your sites will click on your affiliates’ link that has other items related to what they are looking for and if that customer made a purchase on your affiliated site, you get a percentage of their sales because you referred that customer to their site from yours.

There are endless ways to monetize web traffic. You just have to be creative enough to be ahead of the pack. Brilliant ideas made the likes of Larry Page and Sergey Brin (Google.com founders) to be billionaires in just a few years. The internet is a vast information cloud and many tips and guides are there to teach you what you need to make big bucks from your web site.

Are you a new manager? Starting your new position may prove more difficult than you imagined. Suddenly you have new responsibilities to the people around you, and you must learn how to strike critical balances in your work policies and interpersonal relations. An LMS course can help, but so can some simple practices.

Practice tolerance and think outside the box. One mistake that new managers often make is to try to change everything. Remember, just because the way someone does something isn’t the way you’d do it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Decide what is worth changing and what is just different.

This leads into a second good practice for new managers; avoid showing everyone who is in charge. If you may have just been promoted to manager, you might feel that you know everything there is to know about your area. However, you still must learn how to manage other people, so be sure to listen to those in your group and ask for the input when you need it.

Third, take time to get to know the people you are managing. Even if you have worked beside these people for years, that doesn’t necessarily mean you really know them. Find out what’s exciting or interesting for them, how to motivate them, and what concerns they may have. If you get to know them as individuals, you will be able to more effectively manage them.

One recent poll showed that over half of new managers received absolutely no formal training before beginning the job. If you’re a new manager, be proactive in your own training and transition process. Search the web for tips for new managers or search for training courses on the internet to help you succeed in your new position.

Pick up a course on an online learning platform like Coggno. Free courses include a Sample Negotiation Presentation, Conflict in Workplaces, and L19-Influence. For new managers there are courses such as 6 Steps to a Successful Start as a New Manager, which offers practical tips and strategies to help new managers successfully move into their new leadership role.

When the times become hard, the first thing people always think about is how to get an extra job to earn more income. This is good, but the best thing would be to consider taking up a venture that will see you start your own business, such as the printing of banners. Just like any other business, it will mean you get to learn a few tips on how to start a signage company.

It involves the printing of banners and tarpaulins. It may sound very easy but it will need a few machines to be bought. Go for the machinery that will sustain the type of work you will be doing for clients. You will need to buy the high-technology machines.

A single printer which can at least do the standard size banner is ideal for a start. It will need a better and bigger machine which you may add as the business continues to grow. You will eventually buy a printer that has the capacity for varied size banners.

When the customers begin to increase, their requests will be of a number of specifications. It means you will start handling various sizes from small to the larger types of banners or what you call billboards. Obviously at this point what you need is a bigger machine which can take any size of banner.

Again your business will force you to find a suitable supplier of vinyl PVC for use in the printing of the banners. The best option would be to get a wholesaler who can give you discounts. Others even go to the extent of giving good opening offers to their first time clients.

Buying in bulk will make you enjoy large scale or quantity discounts from the supplier. Take advantage of this by buying in large quantities which you will need for production, but just store the material properly in a cool and dry place to prevent them from getting any molds. Mold can interfere with the standard or quality of work.

Start advertising your work by making banners for your own business. People will see it and ask where you got it from. If you are good at using some beautiful backdrops or art editing then incorporate them too.

If you can offer some to the people you know free of charge, it is a good way of promoting business and getting more clients.

Everybody is in the selling business. At one point or another, assuming you are not Robinson Crusoe trapped on some obscure island, you are always trying to sell something to the next fellow you are relating with.

And you could be trying to sell them just about anything. From a strand of hair to ambient oxygen (assuming you have a better supply of it). We live in an interdependent society. Nobody is an island and for you to survive you’ve got to sell me that stuff i don’t have for you to acquire the stuff you don’t have.

In modern day selling, the art of selling has become as good as or in some cases better than the product/service itself. Your ability to master the art of selling keeps you in business; because the fact that you will open shop by this time next year depends solely on the rate at which goods and services leave your shelf.

For more effective sales, here are five sales strategies:

1. Put your whole heart into your selling. The more enthusiastic you are about your products and services, the better and faster you can transfer that enthusiasm to your customers. Absolute faith and belief in your products and services makes you present these products/services at every slightest opportunity and initiate the call to buy.

This enthusiasm is directly related to your ability to convince your customer that this is what they need. Human beings are primarily emotional in everything they do or say, and this makes caring for your customers a critical element to successful selling. The customer buys if he knows you care very much about his benefiting from what you are offering.

2. Ask the customer to buy. Customers always entertain some degree of hesitation or indecision even if they are convinced that your product/service is what they need. This indecision can always cost you the sale.

For effective sales, you need to get the customer to take action. Ask him to buy it given that under the circumstance this is the right product or service for him. Most sales people don’t do this and it takes its toll on their sales.

3. Build trust whether a sale is made or not. Most buying decisions are made after the fifth meeting or interaction with the customer. It is therefore essential for you to always build trust on your way to making the sale.

The more credible a prospect sees you the easier and faster you can convert him into a customer. Trust is built by showing more interest in the customer than in what you are offering.

4. Know your numbers. In everything you do there are always a couple of things that make the most difference. Twenty percent of your activities bring you eighty percent of your sales. Twenty percent of your products/services bring in eighty percent of your income. For effective sales, always identify and concentrate on the twenty percent of things. Spend more time with those twenty percent of customers. Produce more of those twenty percent of products/services. Use more of those twenty percent means of promotion.

5. Be omnipresent. If you simply increase the number of people you can reach with your products and services, there is nothing in the world that can stop you from hitting that sales target you place for yourself.

The top salespeople see more people and make more requests for their products and services to be bought. Leveraging on different marketing and promotional tools makes you omnipresent.
